On Wednesday, the flood situation in Assam worsened<\/strong><\/span><\/a> with over 3.40 lakh people affected in 22 districts as water levels in the Brahmaputra river and its tributaries continued to rise, according to an official bulletin. This number was up from the 3.07 lakh people affected in 21 districts on Tuesday, and the death toll in this year’s flood remained unchanged at 15.<\/span><\/h3>\n

The Brahmaputra was flowing above the danger mark at Dhubri, Goalpara, Guwahati, Tezpur and Nematighat, as well as Disang, Buridihing and Subansiri. A total of 3,40,937 people were affected by the floods. Majuli was the worst-hit district with 65,035 people affected, followed by Goalpara (58,439), Morigaon (44,181), Biswanath (36,671), Sivasagar (28,669) and Lakhimpur (24,594).<\/span><\/p>\n

1,308 people have sought shelter in 153 relief camps and relief is being distributed through 150 distribution centres. The forest department reported that 13 of the 44 camps in Orang National Park and Tiger Reserve and 10 camps in Pobitora Wildlife Sanctuary were inundated. Additionally, 3,02,932 animals were affected by the flood.<\/span><\/p>\n

An embankment was breached in Darrang district and another was damaged in Udalguri, while 33 roads were damaged in Darrang, Dhubri, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup Metro, Karimganj, Majuli, Morigaon and Udalguri districts. Largescale erosion was also reported from Barpeta, Biswanath, Bongaigaon, Dibrugarh, Majuli, Nalbari, Sonitpur, Tinsukia and Udalguri.<\/span><\/p>\n
