{"id":12208,"date":"2020-01-08T20:45:31","date_gmt":"2020-01-08T15:15:31","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/wordpress-440531-1379741.cloudwaysapps.com\/?p=12208"},"modified":"2020-01-08T20:45:31","modified_gmt":"2020-01-08T15:15:31","slug":"normal-life-in-assam-hit-by-nation-wide-strike","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/assamtimespost.com\/?p=12208","title":{"rendered":"Normal life in Assam hit by nation-wide strike"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone  wp-image-4428\" src=\"https:\/\/wordpress-440531-1379741.cloudwaysapps.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/0-1-e1574345654996.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"22\" height=\"31\" title=\"\"> <span style=\"font-size: 14pt; color: #ff0000;\"><strong>ASSAM TIMES POST<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\"><strong>Guwahat :<\/strong> Normal life was hit in Assam due to a nationwide strike called by trade unions on Wednesday, said official sources. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">No untoward incident has been reported so far. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Shops and markets kept their shutters down though pharmacies were open, while educational institutions, particularly schools remained closed, the sources said.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The scheduled examinations in colleges and higher educational institutions were conducted normally. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Public transport local and long distance vehicles kept off the roads in response to the strike call by trade unions against the government&#8217;s &#8220;anti-people&#8221; policies.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Though most private offices remained close, Assam Government offices remained opened with the employees attending to their work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">The government had given an order yesterday to the Divisional Commissioners and district Deputy Commissioners to ensure normal functioning of all government offices and services during the strike call period resorting to pay cut and other action.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">In the capital city Guwahati trade union organizations were seen peacefully demonstrating for some time in front of the Kamrup (Metro) district Deputy Commissioner&#8217;s office.<\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Most banks remained close across the state though some were open with thin attendance of staff and customers.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Trade union organizations demonstrated in front of the Numaligarh Refinery Ltd (NRL) in upper Assam, it functioned as usual along with Guwahati, Bongaigaon, and Digboi refineries. <\/span><br \/>\n<span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Oil drilling activities of ONGC and Oil India Ltd (OIL) were also reported to have carried on normally.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Petrol and diesel filling stations were close with customers having to return with out getting oil for their vehicles, the sources added. <\/span><span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">Meanwhile, patrolling by police and para military forces was intensified in the<\/span> <span style=\"font-size: 14pt;\">vital installations to prevent untoward incidents.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ASSAM TIMES POST Guwahat : Normal life was hit in Assam due to a nationwide strike called by trade unions on Wednesday, said official sources.
