Sumi Borah had been under scrutiny for allegedly obstructing the investigation. A senior police official revealed, \u201cBorah has been uncooperative since her surrender. She often cried during interrogation or evaded questions. Despite her repeated claims of feeling unwell, medical examinations found her fit.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Prior to surrendering, Borah posted a video asserting her preference for jail over police lockup, citing ongoing misinformation and propaganda against her, which had caused significant distress to her family. She denied fleeing and stated she was hiding due to these circumstances.<\/span><\/p>\n

The scandal, involving approximately Rs 2,200 crore, was uncovered following the arrest of Bishal Phukan, identified as the scam\u2019s mastermind. Phukan allegedly leveraged Borah\u2019s connections within the Assamese film industry to attract clients under false promises of high returns from online trading. Following Phukan\u2019s arrest, Borah and her husband went into hiding but eventually surrendered to authorities last week.<\/span><\/p>\n

Adding to the legal troubles, Amlan Borah, Sumi Borah\u2019s brother-in-law, was also taken into judicial custody on Tuesday after being apprehended in Bihar.<\/span><\/p>\n

This case has sent shockwaves through Assam, highlighting the misuse of celebrity influence in fraudulent schemes. Investigations continue as authorities aim to unravel the extent of the scam and bring all involved parties to justice.<\/span><\/p>\n
