The conference, held at the Sribhumi District Commissioner’s office, was attended by key stakeholders, including former Lakhipur MLA, former ATC chairman, and General Secretary of Barak Tea Workers’ Development, Rajdeep Guala, as well as leaders of the Longai Tea Estate workers’ organization.

Addressing the concerns over the estate’s future, Chief Minister Sarma stated that the ATC will continue to manage all four tea gardens under Longai Tea Estate, and will operate without disruption. He urged workers to disregard any misleading information and even recommended recording his statement as proof against false claims. This clarification comes after a recent meeting between the Sribhumi district commissioner and officials sparked speculation about the estate’s possible closure. However, the Chief Minister clarified that the discussion was merely exploratory and did not imply any decision to shut down operations. Reiterating his reassurance, Sarma emphasized that Longai Tea Estate will continue to function as usual, guaranteeing the stability and security of the workers.

Himanta Biswa Sarma Commits to Safeguarding Workers’ Rights and Interests

It is worth noting that the discussions between the Sribhumi district commissioner and officials, which had raised concerns over the estate’s future, were merely exploratory in nature. The Chief Minister’s statement has brought a sense of relief to the workers, who had been anxiously waiting for updates on the situation. The tea estate’s operation is crucial for the local economy, and any shutdown would have had severe consequences for the workers and the community.

The Chief Minister’s statement has put an end to speculation and rumors surrounding the estate’s closure, and workers can now look forward to a stable and secure future. The Assam government’s commitment to supporting the tea industry and ensuring the well-being of its workers is evident, and this move is a testament to the state’s dedication to the sector. The Longai Tea Estate workers can finally breathe a sigh of relief, knowing that their jobs and livelihoods are secure, thanks to the Chief Minister’s reassurance.

In a move to quell rumors and alleviate concerns, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma hosted a video conference to assuredly inform workers of Longai Tea Estate that there are no plans to shut down the estate.
