Guwahati :<\/strong> <\/span>Sharjeel Imam, a JNU student and accused in anti-CAA violence, was remanded to another four days police custody on Monday by the Chief Judicial Magistrate’s court which had forwarded him to as many days custody of the security force after he was brought to Assam on February 20 for interrogation.<\/span><\/p>\n

At the expiry of his four days police remand Imam was produced here in the Kamrup (Metro) CJM’s court which again sent him to another four days custody of the police for its crime branch to interrogate him.<\/span><\/p>\n

The student arrested on charges of sedition was brought from Delhi to Guwahati on Thursday evening by train and then taken to a hospital for medical checkup before he was produced before the chief judicial magistrate.<\/span><\/p>\n

The student, who came into the limelight during the ongoing protests at Shaheen Bagh against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, was arrested from Bihar’s Jehanabad on January 28 in a case of allegedly making inflammatory speeches at the Jamia Millia Islamia University and in Aligarh.<\/span>
\nImam was slapped with a sedition case after his alleged speeches went viral on social media wherein he was heard speaking about Assam’s possible secession from the country in the wake of the CAA.<\/span>A case under the stringent Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) has been registered against him in Assam.<\/span><\/p>\n

On Tuesday, the Delhi police had named Imam as “instigator” in its charge sheet filed against 17 people in a case related to violence during protests against the CAA at New Friends Colony near Jamia Millia Islamia last year.\u00a0 <\/span>Meanwhile, Finance, Health, Education, etc., Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma talking to reporters here on Monday on the sidelines of a meeting said the Assam government is keeping a watch on the developments here regarding the information given by Sharhjeel during police interrogation.<\/span><\/p>\n

On media reports about Imam’s contact with AIUDF supremo Badruddin Ajmal for some years, Sarma said, “I have seen it in the media only. As minister police has not informed me about it. If there is any connection between them for unlawful activities, we will take necessary action”.<\/span><\/p>\n
