S<\/span><\/strong>ix militants of the National Liberation Front of Bodoland (NLFB) surrendered with huge quantities of arms and ammunition in Assam’s Sonitpur district on Wednesday, police said.<\/span>
\n \"NLFB<\/span>A group of about 12 militants was hiding in Chariduar area along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border, Sonitpur Superintendent of\u00a0Police Dhananjya Ghanawat told reporters here.<\/span><\/h2>\n

Two of them were injured in a gunfight with the police on April 1 at 12 Mile area of Bhalukpong town, they said.<\/span><\/p>\n

As operation was stepped up in the area, the six militants surrendered along with their arms and ammunition on being convinced by the police, they added.<\/span><\/p>\n

The militants deposited\u00a0 an AK-56 rifle with one magazine and 146 ammunition, two pistols with one magazine each, two hand made SBBL, two live grenades, two khukris, seven mobile phones and a motorbike.<\/span><\/p>\n

The surrendered militants were identified as Geolang Basumatary, Tarun Basumatary, Jishoya Basumatary, Gibiyan Basumatary, Bidai Narzary and Alson Basumatary.<\/span><\/p>\n

Ghanawat said that the militants were trying to move to Myanmar for training and also planned to recruit more cadres from Sonitpur and Chirang districts.<\/span><\/h2>\n

He said that there are some more cadres hiding in Sonitpur and\u00a0 urged them to return to the mainstream at the earliest.<\/span><\/h2>\n

Following the signing of the Bodo Accord in January 2020, a large number of NDFB militants surrendered while some went on to form the NLFB<\/span><\/p>\n

Many of the NLFB cadres had also surrendered since last year but\u00a0 some of these militants had devised different ways of extorting money from the people, Ghanawat said.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
