The Assam police in Cachar district confiscated a minimum of 1.5 kg of illegal drugs worth approximately Rs 7 crore on Wednesday. Acting on a tip-off, Superintendent of Police Numal Mahatta led an operation near the National Institute of Technology (NIT) in Silchar early in the morning. The search revealed 1.5 kg of heroin concealed within 104 soap boxes in a vehicle.

Preliminary investigations suggest that the narcotics were transported illegally from Churachandpur district in Manipur to Cachar via Mizoram’s Champai. The seized drugs hold an estimated value of at least Rs 7 crore in the global market. Four individuals, namely Mamang Haokip (36), Haobem Haokip (30), Henboi Haokip (39), and Gogou Paite (30), were apprehended in connection with the case.
While Mamang, Henboi, and Gogou come from Churachandpur in Manipur, Haobem is a resident of Kangpokpi district in Manipur. Prior to this incident, Assam police in Cachar district had seized a significant amount of narcotics valued at approximately Rs 5 crore in two separate operations on Sunday.
