At the heart of Guwahati, the Veterinary College Playground in Khanapara became the epicenter of this significant development narrative as PM Modi unveiled a series of both state and central projects. Amidst the gathering, the Prime Minister laid the foundation stones for projects that promise to enhance the lives of Assam’s residents and honor its historical legacy.

A prime highlight is the Kamakhya Temple corridor project, with an investment of Rs 498 crore, aimed at enriching the spiritual experience for devotees. This initiative reflects the government’s vision to preserve and enhance pilgrimage sites as symbols of India’s enduring civilization.

Furthering the connectivity within the state, PM Modi launched a six-lane road project connecting the new airport terminal in Guwahati, with an allocation of Rs 358 crore. This venture is set to streamline access and boost the local economy by facilitating smoother travel for citizens and visitors alike.

The Prime Minister’s focus on sports infrastructure was evident as he set the foundation for upgrading the Nehru Stadium to meet FIFA standards with a hefty Rs 831 crore budget. Additionally, a new sports complex in Chandrapur, worth Rs 300 crore, was announced, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering sporting talent and providing world-class facilities.

The second edition of Asom Mala was also flagged off by the Prime Minister. This ambitious program encompasses the construction of 43 new roads and 38 concrete bridges, with a combined investment of Rs 3,444 crore. This extensive road network is set to revolutionize transportation and connectivity across Assam, enhancing trade and commerce.

In the healthcare sector, PM Modi laid the cornerstone for a state-of-the-art integrated building for the Gauhati Medical College and Hospital, which will be constructed at a staggering cost of Rs 3,250 crore. He also unveiled plans for a new medical college and hospital in Karimganj, with a budget of Rs 578 crore, promising advanced healthcare facilities for the region.

Adding to the urban landscape, the Unity Mall in Guwahati, with an investment of Rs 297 crore, is set to emerge as a hub for commerce and community engagement.

“In the last 10 years, our government has increased the expenditure on development in this region by four times,” PM Modi stated, highlighting the central government’s intensified focus on the Northeast. The expansion of railway tracks by more than 1900 km and a nearly 400% increase in the railway budget since 2014 were underscored as pivotal achievements that have facilitated growth and connectivity.

Complementing these developmental strides, PM Modi inaugurated two newly constructed four-lane roads, one from Biswanath Chariali to Gohpur and another from Dolabari to Jamuguri, developed at costs of Rs 1,451 crore and Rs 592 crore, respectively. These roads exemplify the government’s drive to smooth out the travel experience in Assam.

Prior to these engagements, the Prime Minister’s arrival at the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport from Odisha set the tone for his visit. Staying overnight at Koinadhara State Guest House, he engaged in strategic discussions with BJP’s state core committee members, including Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other prominent leaders. These meetings reflected the synergy between the central and state leadership in aligning development goals with political strategy.

With these substantial infrastructure and development projects, PM Modi’s visit to Assam showcases a robust blueprint for the state’s future. Addressing his  public meeting at Assam’s Guwahati, Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Khanapara playground where he was warmly welcomed by a large, excited crowd. The event was marked by a festive atmosphere, with the smell of fresh flowers and ‘floral rain’ to celebrate his arrival.

The crowd chanted ‘Ram Dhvani’ as he entered, highlighting his strong connection with the locals.
