The Karimganj police have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking, seizing contraband valued at an astounding rupees 7 crore during a special operation conducted last night. The successful raid highlights the ongoing battle against illegal narcotics in the region and underscores the importance of community vigilance and police action.

According to police superintendent Nomol Mahatty, the operation took place in Lalapur, a locality under the jurisdiction of the Dholai police station. Acting on credible intelligence regarding smuggling activities, the police intercepted a truck that had come from Aizawl, Mizoram. This proactive measure is a testament to the police’s commitment to curbing the drug menace that has plagued the area.
During the inspection of the vehicle, officers discovered a meticulously concealed stash: 30 soap cases believed to contain approximately 375 grams of heroin, alongside a staggering 20,000 yaba tablets. The illicit items were cleverly hidden in a specially designed compartment within the truck, showcasing the lengths to which traffickers will go to evade law enforcement.
In connection with the seizure, authorities arrested Abdul Alim, a 27-year-old resident of Barpeta district. Alim is now facing serious charges related to drug trafficking, and the police have indicated that further investigations are underway to dismantle the broader smuggling network involved in this incident.
