In a significant political development in Manipur, the sole Janata Dal (United) MLA in the state, Muhammad Abdul Nasir, reaffirmed his commitment to support the BJP government on Thursday. This declaration came in the wake of political turbulence stirred by the state JD(U) president, Ksh Biren Singh, who announced a withdrawal of support from the BJP-led administration under Chief Minister N Biren Singh.

The JD(U) quickly moved into damage control mode by relieving Ksh Biren Singh of his duties and reaffirming its support for the BJP-led government. According to the JD(U)’s national spokesperson, Rajiv Ranjan, Singh’s dismissal was attributed to indiscipline, and the party is steadfast in its allegiance to the BJP administration not only in Manipur but nationally, within the framework of the NDA.
To quell rising speculations, Muhammad Abdul Nasir met with JD(U) working president Sanjay Jha and subsequently released a video statement disassociating himself from Ksh Biren Singh’s notice to the state governor about withdrawing party support.
The swift dismissal of Ksh Biren Singh indicates the JD(U)’s determination to maintain its alliance with the BJP. Rajiv Ranjan emphasized that the JD(U) is dedicated to bolstering the NDA coalition across the nation, further accentuating their long-term commitment.
This political episode reflects the complexities of party dynamics within Manipur, as regional units navigate their relationship with national parties. Nonetheless, the JD(U)’s firm stance helps stabilize the BJP’s position in the state amid a backdrop of political uncertainty.
In summary, Abdul Nasir’s pledge to support the BJP government underscores the JD(U)’s resolve to remain aligned with the NDA, despite internal dissent and leadership changes within its state unit.
