In a concerted operation, Assam Police and Military Intelligence from Kolkata launched a significant crackdown against Over Ground Workers (OGWs) associated with the outlawed United Liberation Front of Asom (Independent), or ULFA (I). This initiative, commencing on October 26, 2024, follows a prior intelligence-driven mission conducted a day earlier.
From October 26 to October 30, security forces orchestrated coordinated actions across Charaideo, Sibsagar, Dibrugarh, and Tinsukia districts in Upper Assam. These efforts resulted in the apprehension of five pivotal OGWs and associates linked to top ULFA (I) leaders, namely SS Maj Gen Arunodoy Dahotia and SS Brig Ganesh Lahon. The arrested individuals include Sonu Sonar of Jagun, Babul Dehingia of Tinsukia, Ashok Ali, Ajit Changmai, and Boiln Burah of Sibsagar, along with Tonglong Konyak of Nagaland’s Mon District, and Kiran Sharma of Tinsukia.
Authorities emphasize that the operation remains ongoing, focusing on dismantling insurgent networks ahead of the 2025 Republic Day celebrations. The joint forces have underscored their commitment to thwarting potential IED attacks and ensuring the safety of Assam’s residents.
This concerted effort highlights the vigilance and collaboration between Assam Police and military intelligence to preempt security threats in the region.
