The Naga Council Dimapur (NCD) celebrated its 75th anniversary at the Dimapur District Sports Council Stadium, marking a significant milestone under the theme “75 Years of Naga Unity.” The event drew a diverse audience, including key leaders, local representatives, and Naga community members, highlighting the importance of unity within the community.
Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio attended as the Special Guest, inaugurating the ceremony with a flag-raising event. In his keynote address, Rio praised the NCD’s historical contributions to peace and unity among Naga tribes. He highlighted the council’s motto, “All in One,” symbolizing the integration of 16 tribes from Nagaland and four from Manipur, noting its importance in strengthening inter-tribal bonds.
He acknowledged Dimapur’s strategic importance as Nagaland’s commercial hub, emphasizing its unique position as the state’s only railway station and airport and its location on the Trans-ASEAN Highway. Rio also mentioned protections under Article 371(A) and praised cultural festivals like the Hornbill Festival for preserving Naga heritage. Additionally, he announced infrastructure projects, including a dedicated NCD office, a new Naga Club building, and upgrades to the sports stadium.
MLA Moatoshi Longkumer and Advisor for Tribal Affairs and Election, Tovihoto Ayemi, both commended the NCD for its dedication to unity and its lasting impact on the region’s social and economic progress. NCD President Etsungmomo Kikon reiterated the organization’s commitment to promoting Naga interests and highlighted development projects supported by Chief Minister Rio.
The event honored several local organizations for their community contributions and observed a moment of silence to remember the past leaders of the NCD, underscoring their sacrifices and dedication.
