Guwahati City Police Commissioner Dr Partha Sarathi Mahanta on World Anti-Child Labour Day urged citizens to join efforts to eliminate child exploitation from society, saying children belong in classrooms, not workplaces. Speaking from Guwahati, he warned that child labour robs youngsters of their right to education, safety and a dignified childhood and perpetuates a vicious cycle of poverty.

In his official address, Mahanta stressed the police administration’s commitment to protecting and rehabilitating vulnerable children. “The protection and rehabilitation of vulnerable children remain a topmost priority for the police administration,” he said, adding that the city police will take strict legal action against anyone found employing minors in factories, domestic settings or businesses.
The Commissioner appealed to residents to act as the law’s eyes and ears and to report suspected cases of child exploitation without delay. He asked the public to use the dedicated police helpline networks to pass on information so authorities can investigate and intervene quickly.
Mahanta’s call links law enforcement with community vigilance and child welfare, highlighting that preventing child labour is essential to breaking cycles of poverty and securing children’s futures.
