Guwahati : A heartbreaking accident thrilled the people of Cachar on Wednesday morning. A school girl and her mother were knocked down by a truck at Kabuganj of it when they were on way to school.
The school student identified as Taniya Paul and her mother Pinki Paul were killed on the spot when the Mizoram-bound truck hit them near Lakhicharan High School, Kabuganj, 16 km from district headquarters Silchar and on the Assam-Mizoram National Highway 54, officials said.
Local people angered by the accident, set on fire another truck passing by the area. Police rushed to the spot and eased the tension prevailing in the area and a search operation has been launched to trace out the fleeing truck involved in the accident.
