Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has sharply criticised the Bengal government for its handling of the recent floods, asserting that the state’s residents are suffering due to governmental failure. In a tweet, Sarma expressed disappointment that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is not holding her officials accountable and instead is targeting the people of Jharkhand by blocking the state’s border. He noted that the Chief Minister of Jharkhand has remained silent on the matter.
The BJP-led central government clarified that Jharkhand is not responsible for the Bengal floods. Sarma underscored that the issue is beyond political boundaries and concerns the honour of Jharkhand’s people. He critiqued the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) for their silence, suggesting that their political duty seems to outweigh their responsibility to the state. Sarma urged Jharkhand’s residents to reconsider their support for a party that, in his view, fails to protect the state’s dignity.

Additionally, Sarma announced that Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be visiting Santal. He expressed confidence that this ‘Parivartan Yatra’ (Change Journey) will signify the end of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s tenure, predicting a return to power for the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jharkhand.
In a pointed critique, Sarma accused his Jharkhand counterpart Hemant Soren of hosting leaders from the Indian Union of Muslim League (IUML) while showing disdain for BJP leaders, including Amit Shah. This statement further fuels the political tension ahead of Shah’s scheduled visit.
