
An American tourist, identified as Berry Thompson, tragically lost her life in a road accident in Assam’s Hojai district on December 21. Thompson, who was on a motorcycle journey through the Northeast region of India, was traveling from Silchar to Tezpur when the incident occurred.

Hojai Superintendent of Police, Saurabh Gupta, reported to PTI that the accident transpired when Thompson was attempting to make a turn. It appears there was a miscalculation that led to her two-wheeler colliding with a truck. Despite being swiftly taken to a nearby hospital following the accident, Thompson succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
In the wake of this unfortunate event, authorities have reached out to the US consulate concerning the incident. Thompson’s body is currently being held at the Nagaon Medical College and Hospital. Additionally, the truck involved in the collision has been seized, and the driver is in police custody for further investigation.
This tragic accident underscores the need for cautious driving, particularly when navigating unfamiliar roads.
