Two civilians, injured in alleged firing by Army personnel in Arunachal Pradesh, have been admitted at the Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) here, hospital authorities said on Saturday.
Both had sustained bullet injuries and are currently out of danger, they added.
They are reported to have been injured in a firing incident in Tirap district of the neighbouring state on Friday night and were evacuated to the AMCH by the Army.
Official confirmation regarding the details of the incident from the Army was awaited as repeated attempts to reach them have failed.
AMCH superintendent Dr Prasanta Dihingia said one of the injured was hit by a bullet in the ulna of his hand, while the other’s bullet injury was on the toe.
“Both are now out of danger,” he added.
The injured have been identified as Nokphya Wangdan (28 years) and Ramwang Wangsu (23 years).
A villager, accompanying the injured persons, claimed before mediapersons here that the duo was fired upon by Army personnel.
“Both of them are orphans. Now, one’s hand is injured and another’s leg. Government will have to do something for them,” he said.
He said the Army should be more careful in its operations and cited the instance of the botched ambush in Mon district of neighbouring Nagaland in December last year, which left 14 civilians dead.
“Today their lives were saved, next time someone could die…we can’t let these things to happen again and again,” the villager said.
