One person was killed and four others injured after a suspected improvised explosive device (IED) detonated near Sukhovi in Nagaland’s Chümoukedima district on Monday, officials said. The Defence PRO reported that the blast occurred while an Assam Rifles vehicle was passing through the area and that the vehicle was believed to be the target.
The explosion killed one person at the scene and wounded four others. Details about the identities of the victims and the extent of their injuries were not immediately available, according to the Defence PRO.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the blast. Authorities have been notified, and an inquiry into the incident has been initiated to determine how and by whom the device was planted.
Attacks involving IEDs and strikes on security convoys raise concerns about the safety of personnel operating in parts of the Northeast, where units such as the Assam Rifles are engaged in counterinsurgency and law-and-order duties.
