A Deputy Superintendent of police in Assam’s Goalpara district was injured in an encounter with alleged drug traffickers on Friday evening, police said.
A drug trafficker was arrested on Friday morning and based on his information an operation, headed by DSP Anurag Sharma, was launched in Makori area of the district to nab two more traffickers, Superintendent of Police V V Rakesh Reddy said,
The duo were spotted moving in a motor-cycle and the police asked but they refused. An encounter followed in which the DSP received bullet injuries in his left leg.
The police apprehended one of the drug traffickers but the other managed to escape.
Sharma was rushed to the Goalpara Civil hospital from where he was shifted to Gauhati Medical College Hospital for better treatment, Reddy added.
