An arrested dacoit was seriously injured when the police opened fire at him when he attempted to escape from their custody in Assam’s Cachar district, police said on Friday.
The police had arrested the dacoit on Thursday and he attempted to escape from their custody while they were taking for further investigations in the Rangirkhari area of Silchar town.
The dacoit, identified as Shamim Ahmed, was admitted to Silchar Medical College Hospital where he was currently undergoing treatment, an official said.
The police recovered two motor-cycles from his possession, the official added.
Meanwhile, a 40-year old CRPF jawan allegedly shot himself and was critically injured in the paramilitary force’s Kashipur camp.
The jawan received bullet injuries in his shoulder and was admitted to the SMCH for treatment.
He was identified as Rajesh Kumar from Haryana but the reason on why he allegedly tried to commit suicide was yet to be ascertained.
