A teacher of a local higher secondary school of Karimganj district has been arrested by the police for allegedly molesting a minor student in Assam’s Hailakandi district, police said on Friday.
The father of a class nine student had filed a complaint in the Hailakandi Sadar police station on Thursday evening after the girl alleged that the teacher had molested her.
The local people gathered at the teacher’s house and handed him over to the police.
The police registered a case under Sections 354(A), 294 and Section 12 of the POCSO Act, a police official said.
The teacher, who gave private tuition to students, is a resident of Ratabari area in Karimganj district and lived in a rented house here, the police official said.
