Guwahati: Police arrested three Nigeria nationals including a woman in Assam’s Karimganj district on Sunday night for entering into India without valid documents.
During routine checking by police from Churaibari Police station in Karimganj town, the three foreigners were seen sitting inside a night bus traveling from Agartala of Tripura and were asked to produce their passports and visa to enter India, said the police officials.
When the three could not produce any visa or valid travel documents supporting their entry into the Indian territory, police took them to the police station where on interrogation they claimed to have entered through the Indo-Bangladesh international border into Agartala.
From there they traveled by the bus to Assam to go onwards to Guwahati, the officials said.
The three Nigerian nationals asserted they had entered Bangladesh with “international visa” and crossed the Indo-Bangladesh boundary with the help of a person in the neighbouring country.Police seized five mobile phones from the possession of the three Nigerian nationals identified as Nnaemeka Chinondo Feix, Igneus Okafor and Igunbor Dopis, police said, adding, investigations are on.
