
A 25-year-old man has been arrested in Meghalaya’s Eastern West Khasi Hills district for allegedly murdering his girlfriend, Phyrnailin Kharsyntiew, in a brutal attack witnessed by her father. The incident occurred on Monday evening as Kharsyntiew and her father were selling their farm produce at a local market in Mairang Pyndengumiong village.

According to police reports, an argument broke out between the accused and Kharsyntiew before he suddenly attacked her, slitting her throat. Eyewitnesses rushed her to Mairang Civil Hospital, but doctors pronounced her dead upon arrival.
Local residents intervened and apprehended the suspect as he attempted to escape the scene. He was later handed over to the authorities. The police have initiated a case and are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.
A police officer indicated that the murder appears to stem from a personal dispute, though they are considering all potential motives. Kharsyntiew’s father expressed that the defendant’s violent act was motivated by her desire to end their relationship.
This shocking event has elicited widespread outrage within the community, with locals demanding justice for Kharsyntiew.
