A 30-year-old man from Assam’s Cachar district died following an alleged assault by Border Security Force (BSF) personnel near the India-Bangladesh border, igniting protests and public anger in the Katigorah area. The incident took place on Friday night in Amtoli village, situated close to the border.

The individual, identified as Nirmol Namasudra, suffered severe injuries after being reportedly beaten by BSF jawans. The personnel transported him to a local hospital; however, due to the critical nature of his condition, he was later referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.
In response to the incident, residents gathered outside the Katigorah Circle Office on Sunday, expressing their outrage and demanding immediate action against the personnel involved. Tensions remain high in the area, despite the administration’s attempts to manage the situation.
A senior official confirmed the allegations against the BSF but noted that no formal complaint has yet been filed by the victim’s family, and no First Information Report (FIR) has been recorded. The Border Security Force has yet to release an official statement regarding the incident.
