Two teenagers were killed in a collision on the Mohendijua Upper Ekorani bypass along NH-36 under Manja Police Station on Sunday evening, Aug. 23, underscoring persistent concerns over highway safety in Karbi Anglong. Police said the youths, traveling towards Manja on a scooter, allegedly struck the rear of a Mahindra Thar on the bypass.
One rider, Tering Jigdung, 17, died at the scene and was taken to Diphu Medical College and Hospital (DMC&H). The second, 16-year-old Eleston Jigdung, was rushed to DMC&H in critical condition and referred to Gauhati Medical College and Hospital for advanced care. As his condition worsened en route, the family turned back after reaching Dillai.
He was brought again to DMC&H, where he died on Monday, Aug. 24. Tering was the son of Lotaram Jigdung; Eleston was the son of Arun Jigdung. Both were residents of Upper Mohendijua Thapadao village under Manja Police Station. Rear-end crashes on high-speed corridors commonly point to a mix of speed differentials, abrupt braking, and low visibility—issues that are magnified at dusk and during the monsoon months.
