Diphu : In the midst of the lockdown residents of Hamren town, headquarter of West Karbi Anglong district are suffering from severe shortage drinking water.
According to local residents since last 50 years, the Public Health Engineering department has failed to provide steady supply of potable water in this town forcing the people to purchase water from the private vendors; interestingly the PHE department has set up the network of domestic connection but the pipeline or the set of connections in the area remains dry round the year.
The minimum supply system collapsed in the entire area ever since the main channels break down. The patch repairing of the old and rusted pipes are now beyond restoration. On top of everything a number of citizens have aggravated the condition by punching holes directly in the feeder line irrationally to connect their homes.
Residents have to say that the half century old water distribution system of the town has worn up and beyond mending; the alternate day’s scanty water supply through perforated pipes cannot quench the thirst of the people; residents who have to put up with the water emergency everyday have urged Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council for setting up superior water supply system for Hamren town.
