Guwahati: One person was missing when a mechanised country boat carrying him and about 45 passengers, cattle and eight motor cycles capsized in river Jiabharali at Bihiagaon in Napam area in Sonitpur district on Thursday, a government official said.
Half of the people swam to safety and others were rescued by SDRF, while one Taijut Ali, 42, is missing, said Circule Officer Tezpur Sadar Pankaj Chamua . On receiving information about the boat sinking in the river under Barghat Police outpost, Chamua said police and the officials of local administration rushed to the spot and pressed an SDRF team into rescue operation immediately to safely bring ashore the remaining people along with the motorcycles and cattle.
The mechanised country boat capsized around 11.30 am when it started to move carrying the people from the Bihiagaon side to Borghat for marketing at Barghat Market, the local people said.
