
Two persons were killed and 22 others injured in a clash between two groups following a land dispute in Assam’s Kamrup district on Thursday, police said.
A dispute related to a piece of land broke out in Kismat Kathami village in Sontoli area of the district between two groups and soon the situation went out of control with the people attacking each other with iron rods, sticks and other sharp weapons.
Two persons were killed on the spot while 22 others injured, most of them seriously.
The injured were taken to the Sontoli Primary Health Centre but 17 of them with serious injuries were referred to Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
The bodies of the dead, identified as Noor Mohammad and Ali Akbar, were sent for postmortem.
A team of police personnel have rushed to the area and a strict vigil was being maintained to calm the situation, a police official added.
