Guwahati : Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal Thursday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi and discussed several vital issues concerning the state, including the proposed Naga peace accord.
The Sonowal apprised Prime Minister Modi about the prevailing public mood in Assam in the wake of the proposed Naga peace accord, a CMO spokesman here said. Sonowal also sought Prime Minister Modi’s help for the ongoing expansion of Numaligarh Refinery Limited and maintaining its present status as the Union Public Sector Undertaking.
The Prime Minister assured Sonowal that the Centre would keep the interests and aspirations of the people of Assam before taking any decision, the release said. Sonowal also had an elaborate discussion on the revival plan of Hindustan Paper Corporation’s Paper Mills – Nagaon Paper Mill at Jagiroad and Cachar Paper Mill at Panchgram,
Taking into consideration the future of the employees, the Chief Minister urged Modi to take steps for the revival of the two paper mills. Chief Minister Sonowal also invited the Prime Minister for the inauguration of Khelo India Youth Games to be held in Guwahati from January 10, 2020 as well as to the proposed Sankardeva Award presentation ceremony, it added.
