On Tuesday, officials announced that the death toll from the Chamba landslide has risen to five after the discovery of another body among the wreckage. The deceased individual has been identified as Sohan Singh Rawat, a 34-year-old resident of Kirgani village in Tehri.

The tragic landslide occurred near a parking lot in Chamba on Monday, claiming the lives of five people, including a woman and her four-month-old baby. Search and rescue efforts lasted for approximately 12 hours. Each of the deceased’s next of kin has received financial assistance of Rs four lakh.
Additionally, the closure of the Chamba-New Tehri highway is still in effect due to the accumulation of debris from the landslide. As a result, a geological survey of Chamba has been ordered, and four families residing near the landslide site have been relocated to safer areas.
