President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep distress over the loss of lives in the tragic bus accident in Tamil Nadu’s Nilgiris district on Sunday. She extended her deepest condolences to the bereaved families and prayed for the speedy recovery of the injured.
The accident occurred on Saturday when a Tenkasi-bound tourist bus fell into a gorge after the driver lost control of the vehicle, killing eight people. The death toll later rose to nine with the death of another woman on Sunday. Prime Minister Narendra Modi also expressed anguish over the accident and announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each to the kin of the victims.
