After a 17-day long struggle, all 41 labourers trapped in the Silkyara tunnel in Uttarkashi were rescued safely on Tuesday. The incident occurred on November 12th due to a landslide which is part of the Centre’s Char Dham project. Rat-hole mining experts managed to break through the last portion of the rubble at 7 pm.

Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the State Disaster Response Force, Assam (SDRF) entered the steel chute to reach the trapped workers and brought them out on wheeled stretchers. The first worker was taken out of the tunnel at 8 pm, which was approximately an hour after the rat-hole-mining experts dug through the debris.
