On February 23rd, in Borlangpher, there was an attempted assault on a young girl. In relation to this incident, today, the All Dimasa Students’ Union, the Karbi Students’ Union, and the Hills Peoples’ Cultural Forum, along with many other national organizations, addressed a press conference. It has been reported that a juvenile has already been arrested by the police and sent to a juvenile home for this incident.

Organizations are demanding that cases involving individuals related to this incident be expedited in fast track courts for severe punishment. Before a press conference at the Karbi Anglong District Press Club, the organizations jointly announced that they had conducted an on-site investigation in the area, during which the general secretary of the Karbi Students’ Association, George Timung, revealed that they had uncovered evidence of widespread illegal logging and trading of valuable trees in the region.
Timung accused the individual of being involved in the illegal business and demanded the immediate arrest of everyone connected to this illicit trade. The district administration, police force, and the Forest Department of the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council were urged to take stern action swiftly, with a warning that otherwise, the Karbi Students’ Association would raise a protest against it.
