In a startling turn of events, law enforcement officers in Lahorijan, Karbi Anglong District have seized suspected heroin with an estimated market value of over six lakhs. The substance was recovered from a residential colony in Lahorijan on Saturday.

The arrest and seizure were made possible following a tip-off about a suspicious individual allegedly involved in drug trafficking in the Dudu colony of Lahorijan. The operation, which took place at around 2:30 pm in the Dudu colony, was led by Rustamraj Brohma, the Bokajan Sub-Divisional police officer in the district.
Assisting Brohma were OC Ramen Bordoloi of Khatkhati Police Station, ASI Swamadhan Swargiary, Deepak Lahon, ASI Biman Chetia, Third Command, and other staff members of the police station. Their collective efforts led to the arrest of an unidentified youth and the seizure of the suspected drugs.
The seized material, entirely found in the youth’s possession, was hidden inside 14 soapboxes in his scooter bearing registration number NL 07 EC 2353. The total weight of the suspected heroin amounted to 166.3 grams. The swift action taken by the officers resulted in a significant confiscation that could potentially disrupt the local drug distribution network.
The arrested youth has been identified as Maho Muri, the son of Thuncham Muri from Ikhum village in Dimapur. Muri’s involvement adds another layer of complexity to the drug trafficking case, indicating a wider network that may extend beyond the borders of Lahorijan.
Following the arrest, the seized suspected heroin was impounded in the presence of independent witnesses, marking a significant step in the ongoing investigation. The police are continuing their probe into the case, aiming to unravel the full extent of the drug trafficking operation and bring all involved parties to justice.
