The esteemed Joysing Hanse Award, a biennial honor bestowed by the Asom Sahitya Sabha, was awarded to writer-journalist Pabitra Bora today during a grand ceremony held at Rangsina Bhawan in Diphu. The ceremony was presided over by Asom Sahitya Sabha President Surjyakanta Hazarika. The event witnessed the presence of distinguished personalities, including former Asom Sahitya Sabha President Rongbong Terang, renowned journalist Prashanta Rajguru, Padma Shri recipient Dhaneswar Engti, Karbi Sahitya Sabha President Kamsing Hanse, Vice-President of the Sabha Dr. Girish Sandikai, Diphu MLA Bidyasing Engleng, and eminent poet Charit Hanse, who is also the son of Joysing Hanse. The gathering was further enriched by notable figures involved in literature and culture from various parts of the district.
Upon receiving the award, Pabitra Bora expressed his lifelong gratitude to the Asom Sahitya Sabha for acknowledging his work. Addressing the audience, Bora shared his heartfelt appreciation, emphasizing the honor and recognition conferred upon him by such a prestigious institution.
Despite being unwell, former president attended the entire event. In his address, Terang reminisced about Joysing Hanse, who actively engaged in literary and cultural activities while residing in a modest house named Mandukimi. Terang highlighted the significance of the award, noting that it was instituted to honor individuals contributing to Karbi literature and culture, irrespective of their ethnic origins. “I am happy to present this award to our student, Pabitra. He has done commendable work,” Terang stated.
Renowned journalist Prashanta Rajguru also shared his sentiments during the event. “I have come here today, along with my family, without an invitation. The reason being, there is an important meeting in Diphu today, and a significant individual will be receiving an award. I have a close friendship with Pabitra, my friend, and with the three sons of Joysing Hanse,” Rajguru remarked, underscoring the deep bonds of friendship and respect that transcended formal invitations.
In accordance with the program, Joysing Hanse’s award-winning book and the monthly magazine of the Asom Sahitya Sabha were also ceremoniously unveiled. This segment of the ceremony added another layer of cultural richness to the event, celebrating not only the achievements of Pabitra Bora but also the enduring legacy of Joysing Hanse.
The Joysing Hanse Award ceremony at Rangsina Bhawan was a testament to the enduring spirit of literary and cultural excellence. It brought together a community of scholars, writers, and cultural enthusiasts, all united in their admiration and recognition of Pabitra Bora’s invaluable contributions to literature and journalism.
