On a fateful Saturday around noon, the Commissioner of Karbi Anglong District, Nirola phangchop and Sanjib Kumar Saikia made an urgent visit to Diphu Medical College and Hospital. The visit was prompted by a health emergency involving two children who had fallen ill after consuming muri (puffed rice) and jaggery purchased from the Diphu Power House Bazaar. The incident raised serious concerns about food safety in the region.
It is noteworthy that the health scare began when three siblings from the same family experienced severe symptoms after eating the meal. Tragically, one of the children, a 13-year-old, succumbed to the illness. The other two children are currently receiving medical care and are showing signs of recovery. In a conversation with journalists, District Commissioner Phanchopi assured that the children are now out of danger and are steadily improving.

She stated that she would appeal to the government to permanently appoint a Food Safety Officer in the district.
