A tragic incident has taken place in Jonai. Over 130 people fell ill after consuming food at a prayer meeting. It has been reported that one woman has already died. The deceased woman has been identified as Sharmila Swargiary.
According to the details of the incident, a prayer meeting was held on August 13 at the regional Bathou temple in Simen Chapori, Jonai. During this prayer meeting, 132 people fell ill after consuming the holy offerings. Among the sick were many children. These affected individuals are from villages such as 1 No. Naokata, Rowna Shantipur, and Deka Shantipur Jarmunbaki in Simen Chapori. The deceased, Sharmila Swargiyari, was from Deka Shantipur village.
Initially, the sick individuals were admitted to the Simen Chapori Primary Health Center. However, as the condition of several patients worsened, they were referred to the Model Hospital in Silapathar for advanced treatment. Even there, the condition of a few patients became critical, necessitating their transfer to the Dhemaji Civil Hospital. Currently, more than 130 sick people from the region are admitted across the Simen Chapori Primary Health Center, Silapathar Model Hospital, and Dhemaji Civil Hospital.
