A police constable in Assam’s Dhubri, identified as Akbar Ali, was apprehended on August 22 for his alleged role in a scam involving fake police verification services. Ali, a resident of Dhubri, is accused of extorting money from individuals seeking verification for passport applications. He reportedly offered counterfeit documents under the pretense of facilitating the necessary police verifications at the Dhubri SP office.

This arrest is part of a broader investigation into fraudulent activities in the region, shedding light on concerns of corruption within the local law enforcement community. Dhubri has recently been the focal point of multiple fraud cases, including a significant job scam where hundreds were deceived with false employment offers purportedly from the Central GST department.
Local authorities have launched thorough investigations to uncover the full extent of the fraudulent network and are encouraging citizens with pertinent information to come forward. This arrest underscores ongoing efforts to address and mitigate corruption within the local governance and law enforcement sectors.
