
In a decisive operation that highlights the growing vigilance of Assam’s law-enforcement agencies, police from Khatkhati and Karagaon seized a substantial quantity of illegal cannabis during a routine patrol on Sunday morning. The operation took place under the jurisdiction of Khatkhati Police Station, where officers intercepted a suspicious vehicle and uncovered a large consignment of contraband reportedly being transported across district lines.

According to official police sources, a Toyota vehicle bearing registration number PB 29 AH 7513 was intercepted while traveling from Dimapur toward Dillai. Upon inspection, officers discovered nearly ten kilograms and 114 grams of illegal cannabis concealed in ten black plastic packets inside the vehicle. The swift response of the police prevented the contraband from being circulated further into the region, underscoring the authorities’ ongoing efforts to clamp down on illegal drug trafficking routes.
Following the discovery, police detained two individuals in connection with the incident. The arrested persons have been identified as Paramjit Sharma, aged 43, son of Ratan Chand Sharma from Dalatpur Nivan in Punjab, and Charan Das, aged 41, son of Tilak Das. Both suspects were immediately taken into custody, and police officials confirmed that a detailed investigation is currently underway to trace the network behind the smuggling attempt.
The operation was led by Debasis Bora, the Sub-Inspector of Khatkhati Police Station, along with Amarjyoti Sharma of the Karagaon Police Outpost. Their coordinated action, supported by additional officers, ensured the successful apprehension of the suspects and seizure of the illegal goods. Police sources emphasized that the continued collaboration among regional units has been crucial in disrupting such criminal activities.
Following the arrest, the seized contraband was officially confiscated in the presence of Bokajan Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rustam Raj Brahma and neutral witnesses, adhering to legal procedures.
