In a tragic road accident on the Dibrugarh-Tinsukia bypass, four people, including a seven-year-old child, lost their lives on Tuesday, November 12. The incident occurred during the early hours when a hatchback carrying six passengers lost control and plunged into a rivulet beneath a bridge.

The vehicle was traveling at a reportedly high speed amidst foggy conditions, contributing to the crash. According to law enforcement from the Panitola Outpost, the car veered off the bridge after hitting a pothole on the road.
Efforts by local residents to rescue the occupants of the vehicle were unfortunately unsuccessful. Two individuals from the car sustained injuries, while the remaining four were pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased have been identified as Mohan Shah, Rajesh Gupta, Montu Shah, and a child, Artha Gupta—all hailing from Bihar. Further details surrounding the incident are still awaited.
This accident underscores yet another reminder of the dire consequences posed by unmarked speed breakers and poorly maintained roads in Assam, as highlighted in a recent report on road safety in Guwahati.
