In an urgent call for peace, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla has urged residents of all communities across the state to voluntarily surrender any looted or illegally possessed weapons and ammunition within the next seven days. This appeal, made on Thursday, emphasizes the need for communal harmony and the restoration of normalcy in a state that has endured significant turmoil over the past 20 months due to a series of unfortunate incidents.
Governor Bhalla stressed the collective responsibility of all communities, highlighting the relentless hardships faced by the people in both the valley and hills. He urged residents, particularly the youth, to take proactive steps in the cessation of hostilities by returning these weapons to the nearest police stations, outposts, or security forces’ camps. He assured the public that no punitive action would be taken against those who surrender their arms within the stipulated timeframe. However, he warned that strict measures would be enforced against any illegal possession thereafter.
