Assam CM Celebrates Netaji’s Powerful Influence on Freedom A Tribute with a Vision for Tomorrow In a significant event reflecting India’s rich history, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma recently unveiled a statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose at Rangirkhari Point in Silchar, shedding light on the freedom fighter’s profound impact on the nation’s struggle for independence.

Speaking during the ceremony, Sarma emphasized Netaji’s unique role in the freedom movement, stating, “Netaji was a different kind of freedom fighter, and even Gandhiji recognized his exceptional standing in our historic fight for freedom.”
This acknowledgment serves to elevate Bose’s stature in the collective consciousness of the nation, particularly highlighting his significance at a time when India was striving for autonomy. “As per my knowledge, Netaji had a strong connection with Silchar and its leaders. He visited this town twice, marking important moments in our collective history. This insight resonates deeply with local residents, instilling a sense of pride in their town’s link to one of India’s most revered icons. Addressing current challenges faced by Silchar and the surrounding Barak Valley, Sarma assured residents of significant infrastructure developments in the pipeline.
He announced that the tender for constructing a flyover from Rangirkhari to the Capital Travel Point would be released the following month. This ₹700 crore project aims to remedy longstanding transportation issues in the region, enhancing connectivity for both local commuters and the overall economic landscape.
In addition to honoring Netaji, Sarma also unveiled a statue of Mangal Pandey, another luminary of the Indian freedom struggle. The ceremony included laying the foundation stone for a new school building at Kachakanti Bari in Udharbond, signaling a robust commitment to bolster educational facilities.
