
Barpeta police have arrested seven people in connection with Barpeta Police Station Case No. 154/26, registered under Sections 331(4) and 305(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), authorities said. The arrests were made during the course of the investigation and follow statements obtained from the accused that led to a subsequent search operation.

The seven arrested are identified as Niku Bharali (26) of Ishapurhati village; Bikash Das (24) of Dahati village; Rakibul Ali (18) of Gandhinagar; Saiful Haque (32) of Dhakua village; Nayanmoni Das (33) of Ganakkuchi Pathar near Polytechnic College; Iqbal Hussain (35) of Dewrikuchi Colony; and Rakibul Hussain (18) of Dhanbandha village, all in Barpeta district.
Police said the search recovered stolen articles from the direct possession of the accused. The recovered items were seized and entered into the ongoing investigation as evidence. All seven are being forwarded to the court while further enquiries continue.
The charges cited â Section 331(4) and Section 305(a) of the BNS â relate to house-trespass or house-breaking committed at night with intent to commit an imprisonable offence, and theft from a dwelling or means of transport or place of worship, respectively.
These provisions carry significant penalties, with night-time house-trespass or houseâbreaking attracting higher terms and specified jail terms for theft-related offences under the BNS.
