New Delhi : Ahead of the tabling of the revised Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) in Parliament, Union Home Minister Amit Shah held discussion with Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council at Assam House, New Delhi on Saturday. Here, chief executive member of KAAC Tuliram Ronghang submit a memorandum to him regarding this matter.
Here he said, “I would like to profoundly point out that Karbi Anglong is a victim of illegal immigration where in the decades between 1961 and 1991 the average decadal population growth recorded over 76% which is double the National and State growth average thereby reducing the indigenous tribal population from 74% to 51%. It is estimated that in the recently concluded NRC exercise, about 2, 60, 000, that is about 27% of Karbi Anglong population have not figured in the final NRC list.” In view of such ground he urged him to keep Karbi Anglong outside the purview of the CAB. On the first paragraph of the memorandum Ronghang describe the CAB as great humanitarian gesture. After threadbare discussions, Amit Shah assured him that the bill will be exempted from the autonomous regions. Chief minister of Assam Sarbananda Sonowal, Convenor of NEDA Dr. Himanta Biswa Sarma, state president of BJP Ranjit Kumar Das, BTC chief Hagrama Mohilary, CEM of Dima Hasao Autonomous Council Debolal Garlosa, Richard Tokbi, MAC, Probhat Chandra Taro, MAC are also present on it.
