Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma announced on Thursday that the Assam Police will become a zero-vacancy force, and in order to reinforce this goal, the government will recruit an additional 5,000 youth. During the induction program of 1,861 police personnel who had recently completed their training, Sarma noted that an advertisement for the recruitment drive will be released on October 7.

To further enhance the quality of the police force, the Assam government has implemented several measures, such as body mass index (BMI) measurement for all police personnel and offering voluntary retirement schemes (VRS) for those unable to shed their extra kilos by November. Sarma clarified that any police personnel with obesity will not be allowed to continue working in the state, and will instead be offered VRS as per the government procedure.
