Today, Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition, Rahul Gandhi, along with his sister Priyanka Gandhi, arrived in Wayanad. Rahul Gandhi had planned to visit the area on Wednesday following the devastating landslide on Tuesday in Wayanad. However, it wasn’t possible for him to visit on Wednesday.

Despite the rain, Rahul and Priyanka reached the location today. Rahul had promised to visit the site as soon as possible after the landslide, and he kept his word to the people of Wayanad. Amidst the challenges posed by floods and landslides, Rahul and Priyanka arrived in the affected area and met with the victims.
Due to the heavy rains and landslides, Churalamala is one of the four most affected villages. Rahul visited Churalamala and witnessed firsthand the devastation caused by nature. It is worth mentioning that Rahul Gandhi is a former Member of Parliament from Wayanad. This time, he has also been elected from Raebareli, leading him to leave the Wayanad constituency.
In the upcoming by-election for this constituency, Priyanka Gandhi is expected to contest on behalf of the Congress party. After arriving in Wayanad today, she, along with others, will not only talk to the affected families but also meet with administrative officials at the location to understand the ongoing rescue operations.
On July 30th, a Tuesday, heavy rainfall caused landslides that destroyed several villages in Wayanad, including Churalmala, Mundakai, Attamala, and Nulppuzha. These villages were key tourist destinations in Wayanad. Currently, these villages have turned into ruins, and the death toll has risen to 276. Additionally, over 200 people are still trapped in the debris or remain unaccounted for.
According to the Meteorological Center, heavy rainfall is expected in Wayanad on Thursday as well. Consequently, rain has been observed in Wayanad today. This rainfall has hindered the rescue operations.
