In a dramatic escalation of tensions, a protest demanding the eviction of illegal settlers from PGR and VGR lands has resulted in violent clashes between demonstrators and police forces. The situation reached a boiling point, leading to severe confrontations and even police firing into the air to control the unrest.

The roots of this conflict trace back to the long-standing issue of illegal settlements on PGR, VGR lands. More than 24 organizations have rallied together, calling for immediate action to remove those unlawfully occupying these lands. Their collective demand underscores the complexity and urgency of the situation, which has been a contentious issue for years.
As public sentiment grew increasingly hostile, these organizations orchestrated a large-scale protest to pressurize the authorities into taking decisive action. However, what started as a peaceful demonstration quickly turned chaotic, setting the stage for the violent encounters that followed.
According to official sources, the police were compelled to act when the protestors breached security barriers and began to engage in aggressive behavior. The escalation was swift and intense, marking a dark chapter in the ongoing struggle over land rights and illegal settlements. Nine police personnel, including SDPO, Bokajan, and constables, were injured , as stated by Karbi Anglong SP Sanjib Kumar Saikia.
