In an unprecedented move since the eruption of violence in Manipur on May 3, 2023, representatives from the Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities, alongside MLAs, are set to engage in dialogue on October 15 in New Delhi. This crucial meeting, facilitated by the Ministry of Home Affairs under the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, aims to address the ongoing conflict and restore peace in the region.
The talks are a part of the central government’s strategy to bridge divides between the conflicting groups and foster a peaceful resolution. Key Meitei figures expected to attend include Thongam Biswajit, Speaker Thokchom Satyabrata, and others. The Kuki community will be represented by leaders such as Letpao Haokip and Paolienlal Haokip. Naga representatives in the talks will include Awangbow Newmai and L Dikho.
The Ministry of Home Affairs has personally invited all participating MLAs and ministers through official letters and phone calls, highlighting the importance of this initiative. With over 200 lives lost since the violence began, this dialogue marks a significant attempt to quell tensions and forge a path towards lasting peace in Manipur.
This development underscores the central government’s commitment to resolving ethnic conflicts through dialogue and represents a critical step toward understanding and reconciliation among the Meitei, Kuki, and Naga communities.
