In this terrible incident, two students lost their lives. The incident took place on the night of October 31, 2024, near the footbridge close to the Vivanta hotel.

On the night of Diwali, three young men and women emerged from a bar in a black Scorpio. As they were making a U-turn, the driver lost control and collided violently with another vehicle. The impact of the speeding Scorpio caused the Khanapara footbridge to shatter. The black Scorpio had been approaching at high speed from the Khanapara direction. Meanwhile, a white Scorpio was coming from six miles away. As the white Scorpio was about to enter the area beneath the Khanapara footbridge towards the Science Museum, it was struck forcefully by the black Scorpio. As a result, the black Scorpio broke through the railing and went up onto the footbridge. After crashing onto the footbridge, the vehicle fell back down again.
There were two young women and one young man in the vehicle. Two of the young individuals lost their lives at the scene. Another young woman in the vehicle sustained serious injuries. She was admitted to GMCH but has recently been discharged to go home. Meanwhile, the driver of the white Scorpio sustained severe injuries and has been admitted to the Guwahati Medical College Hospital.
The deceased young woman’s name was Kanamika Narzary, who was studying at a coaching center in Guwahati and hailed from Jharaguri in Kokrajhar. The deceased young man was named Dipit De, and he lived in Srinagar, Christian Bosti. The injured young woman’s name is Neha Basumatary.
After the tragic and horrifying incident occurred, the details of what happened that night have been recounted by the late Deepit’s aunt. According to her account, Deepit had left with his father around 3 PM on Thursday. They returned home around 6:30 PM, but Deepit expressed a desire to go out for a while with friends. His father agreed to this and decided to take the old car instead of the new one.
Deepit left home with the old car around 6:45 PM. After spending time with his friends, he returned to the flat around 3 AM the next morning. Upon arriving home, Deepit took the keys to the new golden-colored Scorpio vehicle that his father had bought three days earlier. Despite the security guard repeatedly trying to stop him, Deepit insisted and drove off with the new car.
Last night, two of Deepit’s friends came to the house to inform the family that Deepit had been in a serious accident. Until that moment, the family had not received any news about Deepit’s death. His aunt had left the door open, expecting Deepit to return. Upon hearing about the accident, his father and mother immediately rushed to GMCH and received the unfortunate news there.
Last night, Deepit and Konamika went to a party together. Deepit is a student enrolled in the BBA program at Downtown University. He is the only child in his family. On the other hand, Konamika lives in Sixmile, Guwahati, and is from Kokrajhar. There was a friendly relationship between Konamika, who is attending coaching classes, and Deepit. Deepit’s mother was also aware of this relationship. Occasionally, Konamika would talk to Deepit’s mother on the phone. Konamika is 18 years old, while Deepit is 22.
