The Assam Police is preparing to file a First Information Report (FIR) against Congress leaders following an incident where they allegedly attempted to breach security at Raj Bhavan. On December 18, Congress members reportedly tried to forcefully enter the Governor’s residence by breaking through police barricades, which resulted in widespread chaos in the area.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma addressed the issue on social media, highlighting that the Governor’s office should be free from political disputes. He assured that the police would undertake a thorough investigation into the matter, which will involve examining video recordings of the event.

The Chief Minister made it clear that future demonstrations near Raj Bhavan will not be tolerated. He announced that a specific area has been set aside for protests and demonstrations to ensure they are conducted orderly. This move aims to prevent further chaos and maintain the institution’s sanctity.
Sarma stressed that the authority of the Governor is above political partisanship, underscoring the need for respect and security surrounding such pivotal government posts. The incoming police action, including the FIR and comprehensive inquiry, is intended to preserve this ideal.
This decision marks a significant step toward managing political protests and demonstrations in Assam, underlining the government’s stance on maintaining order and respecting the Governor’s role.
